Samsung tops the list of second largest consumer facing products followed ITC in revenue terms. Samsung’s revenues for 2013-14 stood at Rs 40,392 crore, a whopping 45% higher than last year. In India, Samsung has been primarily offering consumer electronics and smartphones most of them have been manufactured in India.
Apart from ITC, Maruti Suzuki is yet another top contender for this position at Rs. 44,523.53 crore in revenue terms. But with dismal sales this year, Maruti’s figures may average out to nearly 10% of the revenue. Against this trend, Samsung has been successfully registering double digit sales of its smartphones post September as against a slow take off in the second quarter of 2014.
Looking forward Samsung hopes to offer better product mix and service support to its increasing consumer base in India. Samsung is looking forward to capitalize mobiles and tablet product ranges which account for nearly 70% of its revenue. Facing stiff competition from Micromax, Motorola and Xiaomi in terms of good quality phones offered in the budget price category of up to Rs 10,000, Samsung can register high revenues but not high profit figures as desired by them.
