E-commerce giant Flipkart is reported to list products from 10 self-help groups managed by underprivileged women of Mumbai on their website. This news came as a game-changer for these women hailing from struggling low-income families.
The members of the 10 groups received training and an initial funding from the civic corporation. According to Prachi Jambhekar, assistant municipal commissioner, these groups sell their products at local level at exhibitions, stalls or local markets. An online presence can open-up a new avenue for these hard-working women.
These determined females have managed to list over a hundred hand-crafted products such as jackets, rangoli, skirts, diyas, bags, jewellery and much more. A CA by profession, Deepti Tamhane along with Prachi Jambhekar helped these women having hardly any formal education create a brand named “Hand to hearts”.
It was only after thorough 3 months paperwork along with standardization procedure and quality tests that the products went online on Flipkart. This new platform will open doors of growth and ensure their business gain maximum profit.
